Rotary Screw Operating Principle
Rotary screw compressors are one of the most widely used technologies on the market and are renowned for their durability and reliability. Simple in design yet high performing, screw compressors use positive displacement technology to reduce the volume of air. The main compression elements are called rotors – one male and one female. The rotors spin in opposite directions, drawing air in between them and forcing it along the length of the rotor. As the space between the rotors and the housing decreases, the air is forced into a smaller volume. The compressed air can then be displaced at the outlet.
Lubricated compressors
The L series of rotary screw compressors are oil lubricated models. Oil is used for 4 main purposes in the installation:
- Cooling
- Lubrication
- Sealing
- Noise dissipation
Oil helps to keep the compressor running smoothly and efficiently and is an important part of the compression process. Where air quality is important for specific industries, downstream equipment can be used to clean the compressed air to remove any traces of oil from the end product.
